D.C. Everest High School junior David Pickar wins first place

D.C. Everest High School junior David Pickar won first place in the University of Wisconsin -Manitowoc Lakeshore Wind Ensemble Association's 27th Young Artist Competition. He will receive a $1500 scholarship award and a solo performance with the Lakeshore Wind Ensample at its March 3, 2018 concert held at the Capitol Civic Center in Manitowoc.

David is the percussion section leader and active in both senior high concert and jazz band. As a performer, he plays regularly with the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra as principal percussionist. He has been selected for the WSMA Honors Jazz Ensemble as a pianist. David has auditioned for several other concerto competitions: placing third in the Concord Chamber Orchestra, semi-finalist as a part of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, runner up of the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra concerto competition, and a co-winner of the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra concerto competition.

As a band student, he has enjoyed received all three awards eligible for freshman band students as well as passing the Advanced Placement Music Theory Exam with the highest score of a five. Private lessons have advanced his learning via percussion lessons with Mr. Joseph Finnegan, Dr. Adam Rappel, Dr. Brian Baldauff, and piano lessons from Mrs. Vicki Swenson and Prof. Matthew Buchman. David is a member of the International Percussive Arts Society, various school clubs, National Honors Society, DCE Cross Country, and Badger 4-H.
