National History Day 2017 - Taking a Stand in History

  • National History Day (NHD) is a non-profit education organization based in College Park, Maryland. Each year, students across the U.S. participate in National History Day by conducting original research on historical topics around a theme chosen by NHD. This year, NHD chose the theme: Taking a Stand in History.

Each year eighth grade students at D.C. Everest Junior High participate in National History Day. Students at the Senior High host their own History Day event as well. After months of research, interviews and compilation of facts, students showcase their work in a variety of creative venues — ranging from 3D-displays, papers and poster boards, to websites, documentaries and live performances.

At the close of the day, the school hosts an History Day Award Ceremony where Community Awards and NHD awards are presented. DCE is grateful to the community organizations who take part in the DCE History Day event. Those organizations include: Wausau VFW Post #388, Everest Area Optimists Club, Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, the Wausau Area Hmong Association, Rothschild-Schofield-Weston VFW Post #8895, the American Legion Roy L. Drew Post #492, Central Wisconsin Children’s Theater, Marathon County Historical Society, Central Wisconsin Uniserv Council, Wisconsin Education Association Council and Boys & Girls Club among others.
