Grades 5-11 Audition to Applause: A Musical Journey (All Morning)
Have you ever wanted a moment in the spotlight–to perform live on stage? Well, here is your chance! In “Audition to Applause,” students who have just completed grades 5-11 will join past and present DC Everest Performing Arts’ directors Mr. Atkinson, Mrs. Vesper, and Mr. DeLonay to learn a variety of songs from many different musicals to produce an entire musical showcase. Along the way, they’ll also learn about and improve their acting skills, as well as learning about and trying their hand at scenic design. Everything culminates at the end of Summer School with a matinee performance for Summer School students and an evening performance for the general public!

Location: D.C. Everest Middle School. Students will be bused from/to the Junior High each day.

Grades 5-11 Summer Fitness
Want to increase cardio fitness, strength, & overall wellness this summer? Need motivation and direction? This is the course for you! You will get access to multi-dimensional mobility drills to support all types of movement, running & strength workouts designed for your ability, games & small competitions for fitness fun, and cool down strategies important for recovery, including Yoga. Other activities will include endurance, nutritional, and mental education for wellness, motivation, and performance. Running is a major component of this class so please make sure to have comfortable, supportive shoes. No credit available.

Note - This class does weight training with the district weight training coordinator, Timothy Strehlow, twice a week so it is not necessary to sign up for both Summer Fitness and the Summer Strength & Conditioning program.
Grades 5-6 Lego Physics (Early Period Only)
Lego Physics is a hands-on learning adventure that will teach about forces, motion, and simple machines. Students will use special Lego "Dacta" building sets to construct models to demonstrate these principles. Additionally, there will be many challenges where students will have to think "out of the box" and build models to help solve hypothetical problems on real world situations.
Grades 5-6 Rubik's Cube (Early Period Only)
Gain 21st century skills through STEAM learning by solving the Rubik’s Cube in 6 steps. Then use your knowledge to get involved in a speed competition and/or create a mosaic (picture) using 100+ Rubik’s cubes. This class is for students who do NOT know how to solve the Rubik’s Cube.
Grades 5-6 Sports For Life (Early or Late Period)
Students will engage in daily exercise through warm ups and games. Games will teach students team building while having fun and exercising.
Grades 5-7 Math Matters-Remedial Math (Late Period Only)
Do you struggle with math? If so, this class is for YOU! In this class we’ll review the main math topics from 5th and 6th grade. Topics will include fraction addition, subtraction, and multiplication as well as finding the area of shapes, volume, math facts, and more! Students will be required to collaborate with others to solve math problems as well as work independently at times.
Grades 5-7 Reading Matters - Remedial Reading (Early Period Only)
Do you struggle with reading? If so, this class is for you. Reading improvement skills are taught, and students will be given opportunities to improve their reading skills and hopefully develop a love for reading.
Grades 5-8 Environmental Camp (All Morning)
Does your child like to spend time outside? If so, then Environmental Camp is the summer school course to take! This class is held at the Twin Oaks Environmental Center and focuses on outdoor experiences which reinforce the learning targets of: 1) awareness of species in the environment 2) understands the impacts of humans upon the natural environment. Experiences include: a visit from Raptor Education Group and field trips to the Black Bear Education Center, canoeing, the Eau Claire River for a rusty crayfish catching contest. Please note that a bus will take students from the junior high to Twin Oaks and return students to the junior high each day.
Grades 5-8 Geometrocy (Late Period Only)
Geometrocity is a project-based learning activity where students will take their geometry skills and design their own city. This multi-tiered activity allows for immediate differentiation because of the size, and students may complete parts, or the entire project based on their choosing. This project doesn’t just focus on math skills, as there are components of social studies (mapping skills), writing, problem solving and comprehension skills too. Students will be creating a city that uses 2D and 3D, practicing both plane and solid geometry. This project allows students to practice and apply learned skills in geometry while problem solving and making decisions based on their own knowledge, creativity, and imagination. Students will utilize many types of geometric concepts such as nets to create buildings and structures, designing parts of a city with shapes, lines, angles, and incorporating multiple skills at the same time to reach their objectives.
Grades 5-9 Amazing Artists (Late Period Only)
Students will understand that art is a way to express their thoughts, ideals, mood, feelings and demonstrate their creative spirit and increase their overall feelings of wellness. Students will explore a multitude of methods to create art, including: performance art, poetry, abstract projects, a vision board, music, drawing, food, sidewalk chalk, paint and other creative modes of expression. Students will self-reflect on which types of art help them feel the most creative and successful, increasing their feelings of wellness.
Grades 5-9 Board Gaming (Early or Late Period)
This enrichment class is designed for students in grades 5th through 9th. Truly, life-long learning skills are obtained through gaming, whether losing or winning. Board games offer opportunities for early learning. Even simple games help young players identify colors, count spaces, and develop hand-eye coordination and dexterity in moving cards and pieces around the board. Board games are an easy way to encourage healthy brain development in older kids and teens. There are truly positive psychological benefits that people get from playing board games.
Grades 5-9 Packaging Engineering Camp
In this STEM lab, students explore the critical role of packaging engineering, focusing on the design, development, and implementation of effective packaging solutions. Through hands-on activities, they will engage in the engineering design process—defining the problem, brainstorming solutions, prototyping, and testing. Emphasis is placed on sustainability, highlighting how eco-friendly materials and practices can be integrated into packaging design. Students will also learn about the concept of a circular economy, considering how packaging can be reused, recycled, or repurposed to minimize waste. The lab culminates in a fun and challenging competition where students design and test their own packaging to protect a single potato chip. Their challenge: create a package that keeps the chip intact, is cost-effective, and prioritizes sustainability. This exercise encourages innovation, teamwork, and critical thinking while reinforcing key engineering principles in packaging design.

Grades 5-9 Magic of Mindfulness (Early Period Only)
Students will have structured class setting including (most days): a daily mindfulness lesson, yoga pose, journal response, act of kindness, moment of gratitude and brain break activity. Some of the projects that will be created include: gratitude jar, kindness bucket, find it jar, mindful eating, lavender relaxing puddy, soothing glitter jar, medication chain and mindfulness folder.
Grades 5-9 Old School (Late Period Only)
Ever notice that some people can do really cool things easily, almost instantly, like make origami containers, count out money, do mental math, or make friendship bracelets? They know what to say when calling someone and how to introduce themselves, how to wrap presents, address envelopes and play Chinese jump rope. Well, these are just some of the things you’ll learn in “old school”. Old school will give you important skills that are building blocks for things that you will learn at home and in school, and help you be comfortable and confident in a variety of situations. Grades 5-9 Science in Action! SIA (Late Period Only)
Gain a better understanding of how structures, forces, and chemical reactions work by taking part in fun and engaging hands-on science experiments (popsicle stick bridges, paper towers, making slime, and other chemical reactions, etc.). These challenging activities will also help students build teamwork, collaboration, and problem solving skills. The science experiments we will do use easily accessible materials, many of which you may already have at home, so students can easily recreate them at home!
Grades 5-9 Star Wars Universe (Early Period Only)
Students will experience the Force by exploring the Star Wars Universe through a number of different interactive, hands-on learning activities, including Star Wars-themed treats and snacks, Star Wars arts and crafts, lightsaber exercise, viewing Star Wars content, playing Star Wars games, and much more! The ultimate class for the ultimate Star Wars fan!
Grades 5-9 Technology Education (Early or Late Period)
Technology Education will be a fun and exciting class for boys and girls who like hands-on activities. Summer School Tech Ed will be project-based: not centered on quizzes, tests, and homework. Some of the activities will include: safety poster, bird house/dresser shelf, paper tower, mousetrap car, using the internet, chain link contest, water rocket, design a cereal box, egg drop container design. This course focuses on functional movement concepts. Students will learn, apply, and improve their functional movements. Students will have the opportunity to learn how functional movement applies to them in the weight room, athletics, and everyday life. Units and concepts covered include foundations of movement science, planes of motion and how it applies to movements, functional movement assessment, functional movement vocabulary and terminology, following a teacher-led or student-led strength training program, goal setting, and charting and recording lifting data. Course focuses on strength, power, endurance, mobility, and most importantly, injury prevention. No credit available.

Grades 6-8 AI Adventures (Late Period Only)
Join us for an exciting summer school experience where you’ll discover how artificial intelligence (AI) shapes the world around us! In this course, middle schoolers will dive into the basics of AI, learn how it powers everyday tools, and explore its creative potential in art, storytelling, music, and games. Through hands-on projects, coding challenges, and interactive discussions, students will develop problem-solving skills, spark their imaginations, and even design their own AI-powered creations. No prior experience needed - just curiosity and a willingness to explore!
Grades 6-9 Photography (Early Period Only)
Do you want to take better pictures now? In Photography 101, you will learn all of the basic ideas and principles you need to get started. You’ll learn about depth of field, rule of thirds, framing and more. We’ll talk about those ideas and then we’ll head out into the field and put them to practice. You’ll have a great time and you’ll take great pictures!
Grades 7-11 Summer Running
Summer Running: A Groundwork for Glory is specifically designed for those who are looking to increase their endurance for their health and wellbeing. Activities throughout the summer will include a specialized running plan to build a running endurance base, guided stretches for injury prevention, intentional strength training for muscular growth, and mental wellness lessons for sharpening the mind. Students who are interested will be able to choose between three groups which will provide varying degrees of effort (basic-advanced).
