Back-to-school supply lists are available on the DCE website for our our elementary and secondary schools. Lists also may be available in-store at local retailers.

Lamers bus lines provides home-to-school transportation for students and will send bus registration forms to families prior to the start of the school year. If your student(s) will ride the bus to/from school, families will need to complete the bus registration forms. The bus registration forms also can be found online. D.C. Everest is proud to provide school meals with a variety of fresh, local and homemade foods. Students will be charged for their meals based on their paid, reduced or free status. If your family is in need, DCE encourages you to apply for free/reduced meals.

Families can use MySchoolBucks, a free online payment service to add money to their student’s meal account, view recent purchases, check balances, and set up low balance alerts. Cash or check deposits also can be made in person.

Special dietary accommodations are available for students with a disability that is food-related. The district will provide dietary modifications for children with disabilities on a case-by-case basis when requests are supported by a written statement from a state licensed medical practitioner. Please find more information on requesting dietary accommodations.

When significant weather events are forecast, families can listen to local radio or television stations, or visit the stations’ social media/website channels for information about school closings/delays/early release. As soon as a decision is made, DCE also posts banner notices on the main page of each of our DCE district and school websites concerning weather events, sends emails to families and posts notices on our social media platforms

Do you have questions or concerns about your student, your student's school, or the District? Social media can be a wonderful communication tool, but it's not an effective means to share questions/concerns or receive timely answers. To ensure your voice is heard, please follow these steps.

Regarding your student. 
Please contact your student's teacher as most questions or challenges can be addressed in a classroom setting. If you have already contacted your student's teacher and you still have a concern, please contact the school principal.

Regarding your school.
Please contact the school's main office and you will be connected with the proper individual to assist you. If you have already contacted the school principal and you still have a concern, please contact Jeff Lindell, Assistant Superintendent of Learning.

Regarding your district.
Please contact the Administration office at 715.359.4221 so we can direct you to the proper contact. The DCE School Board welcomes and encourages student, parent, and community feedback regarding our schools.

Communication Tools

D.C. Everest utilizes a variety of communication tools to keep our audiences informed.

Websites. Our websites serve as 24/7/365 communication hubs for our families providing news, social media feeds, calendars, contact information, and more.

Email/text/phone. Email/text/phone. Families can receive notifications via email, text and/or phone. The district utilizes Infinite Campus and Finalsite to send a variety of important information ranging from the availability of report cards and new student opportunities, to weather-related closures. You can choose what type of notification you receive and how you receive those notifications.

Not receiving notifications?

1. Check Infinite Campus to see if you have signed up for notifications.
2. Review your Infinite Campus profile to be certain we have the most recent contact information.
3. Consider using a personal email address. In some instances, Infinite Campus emails may be blocked by employers and sent to SPAM folders.

eFlyers. Our PeachJar eFlyers keep families informed of events, programs, recreational activities, learning opportunities, and family-friendly initiatives sponsored by community organizations and businesses.

School newsletters. Don't miss the latest news and upcoming events concerning your student's school. Check your inbox and our websites for school newsletters.

Social media. We engage with our community on a variety of social media platforms. Please note, we expect the people who use our social media channels will practice civility and common sense when posting comments to our pages, and we have established rules for engagement for our social channels.

D.C. Everest Area School District School Board Meeting Agendas are posted online with BoardBook. BoardBook is a web-based software application that electronically streamlines the preparation of board agenda packets and builds a searchable archive of meeting agenda packets and approved minutes.

The DCE Student Services teams are dedicated to ensuring every student has the resources and support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Whether you need help with academic planning, mental health resources, or simply someone to talk to, we are here for you. We have a variety of student services staff available — including school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, Marathon County School-Based Community Therapists, and nurses. Additional services include school food/personal hygiene pantries and school-based programs and supports for homeless/transitional students. We also have healthcare professionals at each school who work with students and families to address health-related concerns.

Mental wellness is a critical component of overall student success and we encourage students to reach out when they need help. DCE student service teams at each school can provide resources to help students with stress management, mindfulness and emotional regulation.

7 Mindsets

We also have introduced a new wellness curriculum for all students in grades 4K - 12 called “7 Mindsets” that will help us teach students important life skills. The curriculum provides valuable lessons in self-regulation, empathy and relationship management.

Parent Cafe

We also provide family learning opportunities through our Parent Cafe sessions where parents/guardians can connect, share experiences and build a strong network of support. Trained facilitators will guide discussions about challenges and strategies related to parenting. Parents/ guardians also will learn about child development stages to help them respond to their child’s needs in an ageappropriate manner.

DCE is committed to providing all students with access to the resources they need, when they need them. Our English Learner program offers support for our English learner and newcomer students to ensure they have the opportunity to achieve at the same level as a student who is a native speaker of English.

The EL program is designed to help students master the English language with emphasis placed on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills that help students become independent and develop the academic, career, and life skills they need to become successful.

The DCE Special Education department — in partnership with administration, staff, and the community — is committed to providing an innovative learning environment with the goal of developing knowledgeable, productive, caring, creative, responsible individuals with disabilities who are prepared to meet the challenges of an ever-changing global society.

To help students transition to life after school, our staff develop Individualized Educational Plans uniquely suited to each student and provide a variety of hands-on career exploration opportunities.

The DCE Technology department provides opportunities for all students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for productive participation in an evolving, technological society. The DCE One-to-One Learning program, which provides all students with a personal iPad to enhance their learning experience, recognizes technology is a valuable tool for students to reach greater levels of understanding and expand methods of communicating with others around the world. By helping students become fluent users of technology, DCE can ensure students gain critical academic, career and life skills through interactive, exploratory, and inquiry-based learning.

When it comes to safety and security, families play an important role in helping us provide a secure learning environment. As always, we strongly encourage people to say something if they see or hear something. The information below will assist our DCE community in reporting safety concerns. We understand every situation is unique, so please use your best judgment when determining how and whom to contact in the event you have concerns to report.

Reporting Concerns During Normal School Day Hours

Parents, guardians, community members. Contact the front office of the school you believe the threat is relevant to, or the district office if you are uncertain. Contact local law enforcement as needed. School and local law enforcement contact information can be found on our Safety/Security webpage.

Students. Please speak immediately with an adult, within the school building, whom you trust. If you are uncomfortable with that, please use one of the following:

Crime Stoppers - Tips can be left online or via phone at 877.409.8777 or by using the P3 app available on students’ school iPads.

Speak Up — tips can be left via email, phone or text. SpeakUp is available on student iPads for grades 6-12.

Reporting Concerns After the Close of the School Day

Parents, guardians, community members, and students. Call law enforcement immediately. They will contact the district and partner with us to address the situation. If the situation requires an immediate response, it is best to call law enforcement first. You also may send emails to the district concerning the situation, but we cannot guarantee those messages will be seen in a timely manner. Please note we do not recommend sending safety concerns via the district’s social media channels or the Contact Us buttons on social media due to the inconsistency of the platforms.

DCE has enhanced the traditional lockdown protocols with a new Run, Hide, Fight Training and Instruction program that will be implemented across the district. These procedures are endorsed by safety experts across the country, including the Department of Homeland Security. In an active shooter situation, the Run, Hide, Fight protocol is as follows: 

Run

Have an escape route and plan in mind Leave your belongings behind Run regardless of whether others agree to follow Help others escape, if possible Prevent others from entering an area where the active shooter may be Call 911 when you are safe

Hide

Hide in an area out of the shooter’s view Lock the door or block the entry to your hiding place with tables, chairs or any other sizable item Silence your cell phone so you are not detected by the shooter

Fight

Fight as a last resort and only when your life is in imminent danger Attempt to incapacitate the shooter Commit to your actions — your life depends on it.

We aim to foster communities within our schools where we celebrate differences and promote respect for individuals. Our hope is that by setting clear expectations and promoting positive behaviors, we can collectively cultivate supportive communities in our schools that reject any form of racial or other type of harassment, bullying and discrimination.

It is important our students and families understand the following.

• The DCE School Board has established policies pertaining to harassment and discrimination. As such, the board pledges to take all necessary and appropriate actions to eliminate bullying, harassment and discrimination, including disciplinary action that could lead to expulsion.
• As representatives of the District, staff will investigate all allegations of bullying, harassment and discrimination and determine the appropriate response.
• The Board does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, sex, (including gender status, change of sex or gender identity), or physical, mental, emotional, or learning disability ('Protected Classes') in any of its student program and activities. These characteristics are protected by federal and state civil rights laws and are referred to as protected classes.
• A person who belongs to one of the protected classes is not permitted to use derogatory words or actions toward another member of a protected class. No one has a “pass” at our DCE schools to engage in bullying, harassment or discrimination.
• It is ok to notice the differences between people because it is our differences that make us unique. And it is our diversity that makes us and our #EverestPride culture strong. It is not ok, however, to use those differences to promote bias, be judgmental or discriminate against someone.
• Ensuring we have a supportive and respectful #EverestPride culture requires we all take ownership of our choices and decisions. In other words, “when you see something, students should say something” to a trusted adult. Together, we can create an environment where every student feels safe, respected and valued.

A behavior is considered bullying when words/actions are deliberately used to BOTH cause fear, intimidation or harm AND there is an imbalance of power.

An imbalance of power can be demonstrated in many ways, such as:

• Difference in physical strength/size Access to information (secrets, gossip, embarrassing information)
• Difference in social standing (popularity, money, possessions, resources)
• Difference in ability, age, gender
• Outnumbering the victim
• Unwelcome physical contact 

Bullying Examples:

• Cyberbullying
• Stalking
• Intimidating/menacing
• Coercing
• Name calling
• Taunting
• Threatening
• Hazing
• Spreading gossip/rumors
• Shunning
• Unwelcome physical contact
• Taking/damaging personal belongings

Bullying behavior rises to the level of harassment when BOTH the conduct is based upon a student’s protected class identity/characteristics AND the behavior places a student in reasonable fear of harm to themself or their property, OR interferes with a student’s educational performance/ opportunities/benefits OR disrupts the orderly operation of a school. 

Harassment examples:

• Threatening Insulting
• Dehumanizing gestures
• Using data/computer software against a student
• Written, verbal or physical actions that threaten the student or her/his property
• Hate speech

DCE clubs, extracurricular activities, and athletics provide students with opportunities to explore their interests outside of the classroom, compete with their peers, hone their academic/career/life skills, serve their community, and develop leadership and collaborative skills.

As a DCE volunteer, you can make an impact on the lives of our students and enrich their educational experience. We hope your experience as a volunteer is equally rewarding — therefore we do our best to help you find volunteer opportunities that suit your interests, talents, and schedule. To help volunteers find opportunities within our district, and to ensure we provide a safe and positive experience for students, we use Volunteer Tracker to manage our volunteer program and conduct volunteer screenings.

Collaborative partnerships with community members, businesses and organizations play a critical role in helping  us expand the hands-on learning and career exploration opportunities available to our students. Our community partners play a vital role in providing students with a variety of opportunities, by:

• Becoming a guest speaker
• Providing internship, job shadow, and youth apprenticeship opportunities
• Assisting with mock interviews and resume development
