I am so excited for our new school year! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and explain the different the roles that I have here. My name is Mrs. Cerny. I joined the Weston Elementary family as the School Counselor at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. I work with the students in many different capacities throughout the school year. One of my roles is to work with students in the classroom through Life Skills/Guidance lessons that focus on many different areas including success in school, coping with feelings, and making and keeping friends. Life Skills/Guidance lessons occur every other rotation and are 45 minutes each. Another role I have is to work with students in small groups. These groups are to work on specific social skills that they may be lacking, similar to when students work with interventionists to build literacy or math skills. I also work with students individually. We use our time together to build specific skills or work through particular events in that student's life. Lastly, I collaborate with staff, families, students, and community agencies to support the whole student and the whole system of support for that student and family. This can be through coordinating services, layering interventions to build success, or teaching parenting classes to support families at home. I am here to help our students be the best versions of themselves!
