Key Club Finds Creative Ways to Serve Community During COVID
The D.C. Everest Senior High Key Club, whose mission is to build character and leadership skills through community service, developed service-learning project ideas that would help a COVID-impacted community.

While students and staff across the district have adapted to a wide range of changes this year due to COVID protocols, student musicians at the D.C. Everest Junior High are facing rather unique challenges — all of their music classes are hosted virtually. So how have the instructors and students fared this year?

D.C. Senior High Staff and Community Join to Spread Holiday Cheer
For the past four years D.C. Everest Senior High has collaborated with families, staff and the community to provide families-in-need with holiday meals and a seasonal shopping experience. This year, those efforts are especially important as many families in our local community are facing additional economic pressures due to the pandemic.

D.C. Everest Student Council Launches “Everest Elevates” Peer Tutoring Program
In light of current COVID-19 protocols, the DCE Student Council wondered: How can we best serve our fellow students? The student leaders brainstormed ideas, listened to student concerns and began examining the plausibility of creating a peer tutoring program. According to the council, they’ve “seen an increased need for academic support due to how COVID has impacted the learning environment.” The group researched peer tutoring programs at other schools and decided to launch Everest Elevates, a free peer tutoring program currently serving students at the DCE Senior High.

EVERCON Goes Virtual in 2021
EVERCON — a gaming event hosted by the D.C. Everest Gaming Club that attracts hundreds of guests from across the Midwest — celebrated its twentieth anniversary last year. While much has changed since the inaugural event that drew just 18 public attendees, nothing matches the changes that will take place at EVERCON 2021.
