Microsoft Office Default Paths

It is strongly urged that ALL users save their documents to their home directories located on the building servers.

To change the location of your default "Save" or "Open" location:

  1. Open Office application. Unfortunately, you will have to perform these steps for every Microsoft Office application, but it will save time instead of scrolling through directories to select your home directory location.

  2. Find the Office application in the following pages that you are working with.

Access

Open Access

Select "Tools"

Select "Options"

The "Options" window will be displayed.

Click the "General" tab
Set the Default database folder to F:\
Click "OK"

 

Excel

Open Excel

Select "Tools"

Select "Options"

The "Options" window will be displayed.

Select the "General" tab

Set the Default file location as F:\

You can set the User name to your name.

Click "OK"

 

PowerPoint

Open PowerPoint

Select "Tools"

Select "Options"

The "Options" window will be displayed.

Select the "Save" tab

Set the Default file location to F:\

Click "OK"

 

PhotoDraw

Open PhotoDraw

Select "Tools"

Select "Options"

This will display the "Options" screen.

Select the "File Locations" tab

Set the "Look for my pictures in this directory:" to F:\

Click "OK"

 

Publisher

Open Publisher

Select "Tools"

Select "Options"

The "Options" window will be displayed.

Select "Publications" line.

Click "Modify" button.

The "Modify Location" window will appear.

Click the down-arrow button located to the right of the "Look in:" field.

Select the drive that is listed as your home directory.

Click the "OK" button.

Repeat these steps for the "Pictures" line.

Click the "OK" button on the "Options" window to close.

 

Word

Open Word.

Select "Tools"

Select "Options"

The "Options" window will be displayed.

Click "File Locations" tab.

The "Documents" line will be the only line that will need to be changed on this page.

Highlight the "Documents" line by clicking on it.

Click the "Modify" button

The "Modify Location" window will be displayed.

Click the down-arrow button located to the right of the "Look in:" field.

Select the drive that is listed as your home directory.

Click the "OK" button.

Click the "OK" button on the "Options" window to close.
