Tip Sheets
Blocking Inappropriate WWW Sites
REVISED 8/7/2002
Now that your school has been connected to the Everest
District Network, access to most inappropriate web sites will be blocked.
If you find an inappropriate web site that is
not being properly blocked, follow these steps to report it. Please do
not skip any steps or stop before you are instructed to. If you don't
follow the procedure listed below, the site will NOT be blocked.
-
Check if the site is on Cyber Patrol's NOT list.
(We use this list.)
a) Go to http://mtas.surfcontrol.com/mtas/MTAS.asp
b) Enter the web site address in the box (without the
http:// part.)
c) Click the button to check.
-
If you are told that the site IS on
the list, stop here. Wait a day or two for our server to get an updated
list, and try the site again. If the site is still not blocked after a
couple days, or if NO sites are being blocked on a particular PC, please fill
out a ticket on K12-Tracker.
-
If you are told that the site is NOT
on the list, you can continue...
-
Report the site to SurfControl.
a) Click on "Suggest a Site".
b) After the form has been filled out,
click the "Submit" button.
c) Wait for the confirmation screen to
appear. It will say something to the affect that "Your suggestion
will be reviewed for placement on the CyberNOT List"
d) The web site should be blocked within
one to two weeks.
-
If after two weeks, the site still appears as NOT
in the CyberNOT list (Step 1) please send an e-mail to Site
Review (two words) using GroupWise,
or WebAccess. Include the URL, which school(s) you feel should
not have access to the site, the approximate date you reported the site
to Cyber Patrol, and a short description of why you feel the site should
be blocked.
For information about Cyber Patrol's filtering lists
and the criteria used to create them, please see http://www.cyberpatrol.com/product/cyberlists.aspx
