DECA Member Wins at International Career Development Conference

Brandon Dively, senior, took first place in the world in the Professional Selling event at DECA's annual Career Development Conference held in Anaheim, California April 24-27, 2013. This is D.C. Everest's first-ever first-place winner at the International level.

There are a total of 47 events and therefore only 47 winners among the 16,500 DECA members from around the globe in attendance competing for the top honor of DECA Champion. Brandon took a marketing exam and executed a sales demonstration.

Cole Halligan, senior, earned the Emerging Leader Honor Award and was one of two Wisconsin DECA members to earn this prestigious award.

The DECA Depot, the school store, was recognized for achieving the Gold Level School Based Enterprise. This is the highest honor for a school store.

Lucas Gajewski, senior, attended the Senior Management Institute. The Senior Management Institute engages high school seniors in activities designed to prepare them to transition from high school to college and the business world. A highlight of this institute is the Executive Mentor Program where students interact in small groups with high-profile executives from DECA's National Advisory Board and other top companies.

Other DECA students representing D.C. Everest and competing in California were: Eric Schwan, Jared Gjertson, Jon Rohr, Dustin Johnson, Nick Sierakowski, Holly Solomon, Emily Moore and Destiny Schultz.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in areas of marketing, finance, hospitality and management at the high school and college level around the world.

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC-W) are partnering to promote a residential and business broadband demand survey open now through the end May, 2013.

The D.C. Everest Area School District encourages parents to complete this survey in a hope the state can begin to address the digital divide many of our students throughout the state face and bring the broadband needed in our schools and classrooms.
