Easton/Hatley "Read-a-thon"

Students read over 990 books and raised over $1,800 for our libraries!!

This year, instead of a Book Fair as a library fundraiser, we  asked students to participate in a school-wide “Read-a-thon” that will lasted two weeks.  The “Read-a-thon” is a program that we hope will bring students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills.

The “Read-a-thon” involves students 1) getting money pledges from family and friends, 2) reading and recording the number of books read and 3) after the three weeks are up, collecting pledges by the due date.  Participants may read on their own, or with family and friends.  Students in grades K-2 have the option to either read books themselves or have someone read to them.  Students in grades 3-5 may count every 25 pages as “one book” due to the fact that they read more difficult chapter books.

A record sheet was used to keep track of the number of books read.  When completed, the signed sheet and collected pledge money was returned to the library.

What were the prizes that students may earn?
